Kiss Me, Liar - Chapter 156
“What’s this new… Ohhh, I get it now. So, I just choose among these people?” Keith flipped through the pages disinterestedly. He pointed to a face and pushed it to me. Clearly, he wasn’t being sincere, but it didn’t matter to me.
I glanced at the photo and profile page and said, “Understood. I will contact this person. Would you like to meet starting today? Should I make a reservation at the hotel?”
Keith merely lifted a hand before letting it drop again. He seemed to tell me to do whatever I wanted. I slotted the file folder between my arm and side and said, “Then, since you don’t have evening plans, I will ask that your new partner come to the hotel by seven. How would you like to arrange dinner? Would you like me to arrange room service for your room?”
Keith just smirked. He seemed to think that this was all a joke. He acted like he was generously overlooking my actions like an owner to a finicky cat, scratching at him and making a small fuss out of nothing.
Of course, he wasn’t my owner. He was just my boss.
“I understand.” I turned around and left the office, but I didn’t sit at my desk. Instead, I opened my briefcase and took out the box that I brought.
I knocked and entered again, and Keith looked up at me. I didn’t know what he was thinking, but I didn’t try to know. I walked right up to him and put down the box on his desk. Realizing what it was, Keith frowned.
“…What the hell is this?” he muttered quietly.
I replied in a business-like tone, “The watch that you gave me. I’ll return it to you.”
“Yeah, I’m asking why?” It must be the first time that he was being returned an item that he gave. I recalled how shitty I felt when someone returned a gift that I had carefully picked out. Of course, this man must have felt bad in a different way.
I said, deadpan, “I don’t accept gifts from my s*x partners.”
“Hah.” Keith scoffed. I was about to leave just like that when he pushed the box toward me with a finger. It was pushed along the desk and stopped not too far from where I stood. “I give gifts. So take it.”
“I don’t want it,” I refused tersely. “We both enjoyed it, so there’s no reason for one party to give something to the other. Likewise, there’s no reason for me to accept anything either.”
“Just take it, now.” Keith ground his teeth. He must have felt extremely unsettled that I refused his generosity.
I thought for a moment, then said, “All right.”
Although I said that, I didn’t pick up the box. Instead, I took out a checkbook from the inner pocket of my blazer. Keith frowned. He watched as I picked up the pen and scrawled out a number. As if he had no idea what I was doing, Keith didn’t say anything while I filled out the blank bank draft.
“Here you go.” I pushed the signed check toward him. Keith looked down at the note. It was exactly twenty thousand dollars. He merely looked up at me, and I said, “That’s compensation for having s*x with me so far. You gave me a watch, but I didn’t do it as much as you, Mr. Pittman, and the last time we had s*x, my wishes were disregarded, so I excluded that.”
Keith didn’t even scoff or snort, completely at a loss for words. He looked so shocked out of his mind, then he looked back down at the note. The memo line of the check had “S*X” written very blatantly.
“Did you just… pay me for s*x?” Keith asked between his clenched teeth. His voice was threateningly low.
However, I replied as pragmatically as before, “That was the amount that I considered fair, and even if you think that’s not enough, there’s nothing I can do about it.”
